Take a Pill and Get a Tattoo

Princess is my youngest child. She earned her nickname by years of carefully manipulating four siblings and two parents into always giving her her way. On those rare occasions when she wasn't getting what she wanted, she punished us in wily and unexpected ways. She knew better than to exhibit brat behavior, I have ammunition to combat that. She kicked our butts with wit and humour. Yesterday she completely lost her mind and got a tattoo. Not just any tattoo, chinese symbols and flowers that cover her whole back. She thinks the figures say "strength", I think it would be funny if the tattooist made them wrong and they say "punch me" or something. I know it's old fashioned to think tattoos are icky on girls. I can't help it, I just keep thinking what permanent changes to a body will start to look like as that body gets older. I should just shut up, my natural mother thought pierced ears looked cheap and weren't for "nice" girls. Times change, fashion changes....

I spent most of the day toting grandgirls mom, the three year old and the baby (who's up to a whopping 6 pounds) around on errands. At one point, Juliette had said my name so many times my ears were bleeding and I had no choice but to tell her that if she wasn't quiet for 5 minutes I was going to rip her head off and use it as a soccer ball. Lucky for me, my grandgirls already know I'm insane. Her answer "Oh Nana! That would be wery, wery messy!"

I'm with you, Kat! Tatoos on 80-year-old skin . . .

"wery, wery messy," indeed! When my kid was five, I once threatened to leave him on top of Mt. Everest. He just looked at me and said, "Mom, asthmatics can't climb to the top of Mt. Everest. You should know that."

After years of watching me suck on my inhalers, he'd figured out my weaknesses. Precocious child!

At least you know Princess isn't afraid of making a commitment. The girl's got guts.

I agree---gotta really know that it's for life! I got one that I know I'll love when I'm 80- but it's on my shoulder blade. Do shoulder blades wrinkle up?

I LOVE it when I see a woman that has a huge tattoo of the sun on her belly button. Can you just imagine when or if she gains weight, OR when she gets to be 80? Now that's gotta be a sight!

That's true Velvet, Princess has no trouble committing to things. Eventually I'll get used to it I guess.

Deb, I think you're safe, I'm pretty sure shoulder blades don't wrinkle up. What's your tattoo of?

Kat, I'm thinking like you do...just WHERE is that tattoo going to be when she's 80? Probably a bit lower! When I see the girls that have the ones much lower than that (top of their butt cheeks) I always think they'll end up some day - at the bottom of their butt cheeks! LOL

Methinks the Princess could use a butt buffing, perhaps? ;-)

Too funny, your little grandgirl! Enjoy :-)

I'll keep you posted Jackie, it will be interesting to see where her tattoo travels!

LOL SUNFLOWER! I'll have to recommend that to her!

Thanks Mimi, I'll get over this, dreadfully old fashioned of me. She's 19 and she designed the tattoo, so it probably still will have meaning to her in the future.

When I've heard my name too many times in my classroom I always say, "Ms. A.? If I see her, I'll tell her you called." or, "Ms. A.? Isn't she that crazy lady I saw in the bathroom mirror this morning? You might want to leave her alone." That usually gets me a few seconds of silence while they try to make sense of my words. Sometimes I even say, "She's really too tired to be of much help right now. Let her rest."

Once one of those flip remarks caused a daring young man to respond, "How about, Charlene, then? Is she in?" When my chin dropped and I drilled him with "the stare" he stumbled backward into his seat and gulped, "U-he, guess not, huh?"

Quilly! LOL! I just love witty kids! I'll have to try your technique sometime, mine never makes the grandgirls quiet, it usually generates new conversation on why my plan wouldn't be a good idea.

Oh grandma, what big hands you...ooh grandma, my neck hurts.

I'm too afraid of pain, tattoos aren't for me. There's this thing they do in India, body art, painted on, it's very detailed, verrrry glamourous.

GG, body art makes more sense to me, I try very hard to avoid deliberately causing myself pain.

I dont mind tats, but never fancied one myself.
There are going to be a lot of wrinklies out there with ink marks on them. They will be so distorted by the wrinkles you will never make out what art form they were originally.
Will they still be with the one who's name they had tattoed on whereever.

Maybe I'm just a boring old fart.

I agree Janet, Miami Ink is a show Princess watchs all the time.

Thank you David, I agree, icky is just the best description.

Well I must be a boring old fart too then, davem. That's exactly what I thought.

Mert! I bet it does!

Another boring ol' fart although I love the idea of clorful chinese art on beautiful young skin I'd prefer being able to wash it off.
Catch up with you later kat. Just wanted to say "Hi!" and "how ya doin'?"

Thanks for dropping by Sandy, it's always nice to see ya!

I really don't know how many of your posts I've read so far, but I find them very interesting and very amusing. Once I started reading I just kept going from one post to another.

I don't mind seeing the small tatoos on young girls, but I've seen some girls with a whole leg tatood and I just can't imagine a bunch of 80 year olds with tatoos...that is when these girls become 80.

Well Hi Pasadena! I'm glad you've stopped by.

I know it's hip and I like to think that I'm with it, but I still don't really like tattoo. Don't like anything too permanent. I love dreadlocks and want to do my hair but I wish I had the option of pulling it out.
